Privacy Policy
The following policy applies to EVERBRIGHTMEDIA.COM, LEARNOURHISTORY.COM and any other site owned and/or operated by Learn Our History LLC (together with its affiliates and their respective licensees and assigns, “Learn Our History” or “LOH” or “we”). Learn Our History takes seriously its legal privacy and security obligations and we have developed our policies with these obligations in mind. This policy statement provides our visitors (e.g., parents, teachers, librarians, and children) with an overview of the measures we have taken to provide a safe online environment.
TYPES OF INFORMATION WE COLLECT, AND HOW IT IS USED.
LOH gathers personal information submitted by you. This information may include, without limitation, first and last name, e-mail address, street address and phone number. It also may include other personal information accessible by LOH or voluntarily provided by you, such as a screen name, an SMS address, a credit card number, or other information and/or materials provided by you. (As discussed below, LOH, like most other web sites, also uses certain passive technology to collect non-personally identifying information. We describe these passive practices and policies below, under “NON-PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION AND PASSIVE COLLECTION OF INFORMATION.”) We collect this information for a variety of reasons, including, without limitation, the following: (1) to process and fulfill orders for our products or services (such as our programs); (2) in connection with activities, requests for suggestions, and visitors’ requests for information; and (3) to customize the content on our site for our visitors’ and customers’ current and future needs. In addition, this personally identifiable information may be used for our legitimate business purposes, and/or to provide our visitors, via e-mail or other means, information about materials and activities that may be of interest to them, including products or services of third parties. For these reasons, we may share such information with third-parties. You can, of course, always opt-out, including opting out of the provision of personal information to third-parties. Please see “HOW TO OPT-OUT OR LIMIT THE INFORMATION COLLECTED AND/OR USED,” below. LOH from time to time engages other companies to perform services on our behalf, such as fulfilling orders, assisting with promotions or sweepstakes, providing technical assistance, and developing new products and services. These companies may have access to personal information to the extent necessary or desirable to perform these kinds of functions, but we require that any such company’s use of such information be limited to these purposes. We also reserve the right to use or disclose any information as needed to meet any legal obligation we may have, to protect the integrity and security of our site, to fulfill your requests, to comply with any applicable law, rule or regulation, or to cooperate in any law enforcement or public safety investigation.
FOR PARENTS AND GUARDIANS
LOH is particularly careful regarding communications with children. We urge parents to monitor carefully their children’s activities on the Internet and their electronic communications to and from third parties, including LOH. Parents should, however, rest assured that the activities and materials at the Learn Our History website can be enjoyed by children without the need to disclose personally identifiable information about the children using the site. These activities and materials include our games, our study guides, and our news items. We may expand our offerings in the future to include activities or programs that will involve provision or collection of children’s personally identifiable information, but if we do so, we will modify our privacy policy accordingly, and any such activities or program will comply with applicable guidelines and regulations. At present, LOH is not knowingly collecting personal identifiable information from children. If and to the extent that LOH offers activities or materials that require collection of children’s personally identifiable information, we will not condition participation in such activity or access to such materials on provision of more personally identifiable information than is reasonably necessary for the activity or access in question.
HOW TO OPT-OUT OR LIMIT THE INFORMATION COLLECTED AND/OR USED
It is important to LOH that our customers and visitors are comfortable with the level of personal information being disclosed and used by LOH. If you are an individual who has provided us with your personal information online or offline and you do not want us to share your information with third parties, or if there is a media notification that you no longer wish to receive from us, please let us know by sending us an email at [email protected]. If you are writing to request that you no longer receive a particular media notification from us, please include the name of the media notification.
TO OUR VISITORS AND CUSTOMERS WHO ARE KIDS
Please remember to be smart online. Do not give out your full name, e-mail address, home address, telephone number or any other personal information that would enable someone to contact you either online or offline, without first asking your parent or guardian for permission.
NON-PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION AND PASSIVE COLLECTION OF INFORMATION
We may collect customer or visitor information either actively, in accord with the above guidelines and limitations, or passively, through the use of cookies or IP addresses or otherwise, as set forth below.
COOKIES
LOH, like any number of other popular web sites, makes use of a technology known as cookies. Cookies are bits of data that a web site, like LOH, provides to a visitor’s hard drive to enable more efficient and consistent record keeping. Cookie technology helps us to know how many people visit us and where visitors go on our site. Among other things, this non-personally identifiable information allows us to know which areas are favorites, which areas need a bit of improvement, or what technologies and Internet services are being used by our visitors so that we may continually improve our visitors’ online experiences. We use cookies to enhance your experience at LOH; for example, to keep track of items in your shopping cart if you are purchasing on-line, or to administer and manage interactive processes. In certain instances, we may associate personally identifiable information with a cookie file.
OPTING OUT OF AD SERVING COOKIES
You can choose to have your computer warn you each time a cookie is being sent, or you can choose to turn off all cookies. You can do this through your browser (like Google Chrome, Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer) settings. Each browser is a little different, so look at your browser Help menu to learn the correct way to modify your cookies. If you turn cookies off, you won’t have access to many features that make your web experience smoother, like the features mentioned above, and some of our services may not function properly.
USE OF IP ADDRESSES
We collect IP addresses to obtain aggregate information on the use of LearnOurHistory.com. An IP address is a number assigned to your computer by a Web server when you’re on the Web. When you are on our site, we have a back-end server that logs your computer’s IP address. We only use the information we find out from tracking IP addresses in the aggregate, such as how many users entered a specific area of our site, and not to track a specific IP address to identify an individual user. However, we may use such information to identify a user if we feel that there are or may be safety and/or security issues or to comply with legal requirements.
THIRD-PARTY COMPANIES
We may use third-party companies to serve ads when you visit our Web site and to monitor traffic to our Web site. These companies may (via cookies, or IP addresses, or other or similar passive information collection technology) use aggregate information about your visits to this and other Web sites in order to provide us with data about our site and/or to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you. If you would like more information about this practice, or about the options available should you wish not to have this information used by these companies, please send us an email to the below link, or call us at the number listed below.
LINKS TO OTHER SITES
Visitors will find links from LearnOurHistory.com to independently owned, controlled and/or managed World Wide Web or Internet sites whose content we have found of possible interest to our visitors. In many cases, but not always, the links represent cooperative projects or mutual links established with the organizations connected with these sites. While we initially visit these sites to which we directly link, please note that we do not monitor or control the content that appears on these sites and such content may be constantly changing. We recommend that children check with their parents before clicking off to any new sites, and we encourage all end users of LearnOurHistory.com to read the privacy policies of all linked sites before navigating through them. Please be advised that LOH is not, and cannot be, responsible for the content, policies, collection of data or any other information or aspect of any of these sites. Further, it is likely that these sites will employ passive information collection technologies, like cookies or collection of IP addresses, and/or collect and use visitor information to obtain data about site visitors and/or to provide advertisements or content thought to be of interest to such visitors. Please note that we may revise our above policy without notice to users as the content on our sites continues to change and we will post all such material changes on this Privacy Policy. If we change our privacy policy from time to time, as we expect to do, we will send an email to parents who have provided us with an email address for such purpose. Any changes will be compliant with current law and regulation and will be applicable in accord with such law and regulation. We hope that you enjoy exploring our sites.
